I bought this wool in Peter Jones at Sloane Square, London. I was with my daughter in law, whilst the guys were worshipping at the temple that is Chelsea Football Club. It was the vivacity of the wool that struck me. And strangely enough it is called Fluormania Color and is from the Regia range of wool. I also bought a ball for the daughter in law. She knitted hers up pretty quickly, and then used the rest to stripe with grey wool to make socks for her brother. He loved them.
My wool malingered for a while, then I remembered about it. I decided to knit the Rose City Socks by Mara Catherine Bryner. This is a free pattern on Ravelry. As my knitting is still what I think of as erratic, I am trying to use mostly free sock patterns.
This pattern gave a measurement for around the width of the foot. My feet are quite small, lengthwise, but I have a wide foot. My feet swell a lot, and I have a high arch and instep. I think this is why I find knitted socks either too big or too small. This time my feet measured with the large, so off I went. There is only a short little cuff, it is a summer sock. It didn't take long to get these off the needles.
I am pleased with these, they are bright jolly summer socks. I do have a little "but" though. By "but" is that although the girth is brilliant the toes look a little long and square even though I chose the rounded toe option. I think this because although the large fits my foot width, I still have medium sized toes. The Kitchener stitch finish looks a little ridgey too, but Lord Kitchener and I are still getting acquainted with each other. I might rip them back a little, but I probably will not.
My daughter says if I haven't worn them in 6 months, to give them to her! She knows I tend to wander around bare foot as much as possible. There is still about half a ball left, so they may reappear in some other form.
You could check me out on Ravelry too. I am helenmidgetgem there too. That's original.
