Freefall QAL and the Fabulous Fabrics

Woo Hoo! My prize arrived. I know, I should be modest, say it was all the luck of the draw, I am not worthy.... but I do have to say I was dead chuffed to win first prize in the recent Freefall qal hosted by Sandra, mmm.quilts.com . And the first prize was a stupendous pack of Sandra's own Freefall fabrics. That's a whole 18 fat quarter pack! The fabrics were supplied by Sandra's sponsor Paintbrush Studios.

The lovely Lisa from Paintbrush Studios told me to listen out for the plop in the mailbox. Well, we don't have a mail boxes, we have letterboxes in our doors.  A plop in the hall has a wholly different sound doesn't it! These small cultural differences are what makes us smile. It arrived whilst I was in England last week on my jolly girls jaunt with Liz, jgj17, and just at the right time for Molli Sparkle's Sunday Stash.

Often when somebody wins a prize, they say it is wonderful. You take a quick look, and think, is that really wonderful? Are they really pleased? In this case there is no doubt. The fabrics are lovely, the colours run the gamut of pale blue through to lilac and green. There is a lovely soft quality to these colours, they remind me of paints sprinkled on oily water and stirred through. I am really looking forward to using these.

I think these are my own most favourite fabrics.

The fabrics worked so well in Sandra's own Freefall quilt. It is just so wonderful to have all these beautiful fabrics to myself.

Even the label is lovely. The end of the tag is over printed with the pattern and colourway of one of the fabrics. The cotton tyings have the Paintbrush Studio logo stamped along with an artist's pallet. In my frugal way I will be reusing this ribbon come Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas.... I was thinking of making some 1 hr baskets with matching pouches and purses. Some of this lovely fabric might just be purloined for this. But then, should I break up a collection? Something to think about over the next few weeks.

Thank you again Sandra, for not only organising such a fun quilt a long, but for my fantastic prize. It was lovely to come home to after my few days in England last week. And thank you to Paintbrush Studios too, and the lovely Lisa for all her help.

Just because I love it so much, I will include yet another photo of my finished quilt.

  13. I was in a not good place this past summer, so missed a ton of posts, this one included. SO SO happy you won, Helen. And yes, they are gorgeous fabrics aren't they? Somewhere in QBL I saw a sampler being made with them and it is beautiful. I'll have a think where that may be...having a think led me to this post LOL! Sending a link to your quilt to another blogger who recently lost her father and mentioned making a quilt like my geese out of his shirts, and I thought wait, maybe do Freefall like Helen did! Hugs.
