Sunday Stash, The Easy Way

Joining up again this week with Molli Sparkles and the Sunday Stash, I've found a new way to use up my stash. Get a friend to sew it. You know that expression, "its never lost what a friend gains", well, it applies to fabric too. My lovely friend Anne, previously referred to as The Divine Miss A, or my book crossing friend Anne, has joined the community of sewers. Sorry, sewists, not people who dive down the drains. Anne bought herself a sewing machine and in the spirit of friendship I have set aside this fabric for her.
something fishy going on

We are going to cut it into width of fabric strips, sew them together and she will hopefully have a quilt for her newish granddaughter. I bought this fabric a number of years ago for another little girl, the daughter of a cousin, a merchant seaman. I rarely have any contact though with this cousin, and decided not to bother and bought baby vests instead.  Not even sure if I even posted those. Great to use my stash with no effort and hopefully it will be loved by this antipodean baby.

The only stash in this week was a spool of quilting thread. I knew I should have bought two the week before last. My stash has sort of increased though. The daughter had decided we need to clear the roof space, or at least introduce a system. She is nothing if not her father's daughter. Anyhow, in a box of photo frames she found a carrier bag of fabric. Fabric from my sewing first time around. So, new to me again fabric without being new fabric. No photos I'm afraid, but it has now joined the rest of the first time around fabric. Must bring that all down and sort through it. Sort out the chiff from the chaff, or is it the wheat from the grain? Or the sheep from the goats? And why do we have box upon box of photo frames?

As regards my own stash update, you will be glad to know I have finished ALL the quilting on my modern maples quilt. And trimmed the excess. Just the binding to sew on now. And, I bought a lovely brown spot last week for the binding.
ready to bind

Through this next week I have some exciting news. I'm taking part in a blog hop! Woo hoo!

I'll leave you with a photo of  Anne's first sewing project. Give her a whoop whoop. A tote bag for her first project. I think I feel a little friendly competition!

  2. Love the sea-themed fabric, your friend is going to have a great time turning it into a quilt. :) Love the look of that Maples quilt too - autumnal colours are so comforting! The blog hop sounds intriguing, too.

  6. I see you are converting another into our fold of quilters...bwhahaha. We will get them all in time (sounds sinister doesn't it?) Very cool that you were able to help her along with fabric from your stash. Modern Maples is moving right along, I'm sure that feels good. And gasp...I didn't watch the Superbowl for the first time in a long time. Does that make me an UnAmerican American? I'll eat the hotdogs anyway :P
