Goodbye 2014, not quite ready for 2015

Hi Folks, and happy new year seems to be the thing to say on the first day of the new year...........but I haven't yet blogged my last few makes, so it still has to be 2014 for me. Then I can see in the new year bloggy wise and linkup with Katy's last Finish A Long of the year.

The chief finish for me was the SUFTUM quilt (aka Stand Up For The Ulster Man Quilt) which I was making for my 14 year old nephew who is  rugby mad. He was only 12 when I planned this quilt and thankfully he is still rugby mad. Thankfully he was delighted with it, it was a surprise and he wasn't expecting it. He knew straight away it was Ulster Rugby. A while ago now I had "helped" his younger sister make a quilt and he had gone to get the little boy's quilt I had made him. Nice that a boy that age still cares! He was telling me today it is great and really, really warm - so a success all round then. I finished it so near the wire, and with the vertigo, I didn't measure it is plenty big enough for his single bed, and will be not bad for his double bed in his caravan too. It was made of Kona cotton, and bound with a red and white stripe, Moda I think. I usually sew the binding to the front, flip it over and hand stitch on the rear. Because of the timing and as I wasn't feeling great I machined the binding on the rear, flipped to the front and machine stitched again. I was quite pleased and would do this again. The backing is the favoured numbers fabric from Ikea. I did however use the fluffy polyester wadding and regretted it as soon as I bought it. Had to use it as I bought it but won't be buying it again.

All the best for today, still have to show November's bee block, but now I can say HAPPY NEW YEAR!
